The subjects that are tested

The examiner will be assessing your ability to control the car and deal with a wide range of traffic situations.

A systematic approach using an effective hazard routine (Mirrors, Signal manoeuvre) is essential for the test and for safe driving after you have passed.

The list below shows the situations that may arise and the specific aspects of your driving that are assessed.

The set manoeuvres are designed to make sure that you can control the car in a confined space while keeping a lookout for other road users.

During a normal driving test you will not have to do all the manoeuvres marked with asterisks; the examiner will choose two exercises. In addition to these you may be asked to complete an emergency stop.
