The best way to prepare The driving test has been with us since 1935. It was introduced to cut the high casualty rate on the roads. Surprisingly enough, the test remained much the same until the 1990's when reverse parking and the written theory test were introduced. Before the introduction of each of these changes, there were record numbers of people wanting tests, hoping to pass before the introduction deadline! In 1999 the test was changed to better reflect the demands of modern motoring; less emphasis on set manoeuvres and stricter marking, coupled with the need to drive on high speed roads where possible mean that you have to be better prepared than ever.
As in 1935, the test is still designed to ensure that when you pass you are safe on the road. Although driving can be fun, it also carries a serious responsibility. Around the world, millions of people are killed and injured on the roads every year - each death brings pain and misery to those left behind; each serious injury has the potential to wreck several lives. Apart from driving up to the required, safe, standard, you should prepare for the driving test by completing one or two 'mock tests'.
The single most common reason for test failure is probably the fact that people attempt the test before they are ready.
