Roundabouts ...

roundabout direction signAs roads have become busier, the design of junctions has changed. In many places where there used to be crossroads there are now roundabouts. Roundabouts improve traffic flow by allowing streams of traffic to filter together.

You will approach both large and mini-roundabouts using the now familiar hazard routine. In theory, roundabouts should be easier to deal with than other junctions that you have dealt with so far, because traffic is only coming from one direction - the right. However, you will need to hone your decision making skills in order to 'join the flow' successfully. The secret of making roundabouts easy is to act early, look for gaps, and decide which vehicle you will be following (more on that later ...).

You will be starting your roundabout practise on quiet, straightforward roundabouts; later you will tackle busier and more complex systems, possible controlled by traffic lights or not fitting the normal rules - but lets take this one step at a time for now!

The information covered in this lesson covers the following.
