Crossroads ...

As with most of the new situations that you will be covering from now on, you have already learned the basic skills needed to deal with crossroads; you simply have to apply these skills in new situations.

In the case of crossroads you will simply be using the skills you have been practising at junctions - approaching to turn, emerging from junctions and the MSM routine.

Crossroads are similar to other junctions you have done so far. However, there is an additional road to consider before making your decision about when, or if, to proceed.

By now you should be familiar with using the hazard routine approach, taking up the appropriate position for your intended direction. Because of the ‘extra’ road you will need to take special care with your observation, especially at crossroads with no markings.

In addition to the crossroads covered in this section, some crossroads are controlled by traffic lights; there is more detail about this later in the course.

The information covered in this lesson covers the following.
