General Advice for Learner Drivers

Unless you have the luxury of a lot of open space, off road, your first experience of driving will be on the public road with an instructor, friend or relative.

Whatever your first experiences are, it's important to build a strong foundation to avoid problems and disappointment later on.

If you choose to start learning with an instructor you need to be sure that he/she is properly qualified. If you intend to start with someone else, they need to know the rules and regulations.

Warning ...

You must be aware that if anything goes wrong because of your driving, you will be liable in law.

The fact that you are 'only' a learner does not mean that you are not responsible - as far as the law is concerned, you must obey all the rules and drive safely.

Taking a little time to read the information in this section will be well worthwhile.
